GETTING TO & FROM THE VENUE

Please avoid driving to the venue yourself and use one of the trusted taxi services below to drop you off and collect you after the wedding. We recommend leaving central Plett no later than 4pm. Once you enter the venue it should take around 7 minutes to get from the gate to the bottom of the property.

South Africa has a zero tolerance for drinking and driving and the police regularly breathalyse at roadblocks around the Plett/ Garden Route area. We recommend drawing cash to pay taxi’s as that is their preferred method of payment.

SUNDAY THE 15TH

We’ll be hosting some hangover food and drinks at the Lookout Deck restaurant on Lookout Beach (you will find us downstairs) Hillstreet Plettenberg Bay. The time is from 11-2pm, feel free to join whenever. The Lookout Deck is super chilled and sits right on the beach—you can literally step straight onto the sand. Expect a laid-back afternoon of swimming, relaxing, and beach games for anyone who’s up for it. We will provide towels so come as you are and make a day of it with us.

HOW TO GET THERE?

BY AIR

FROM CAPE TOWN & JOHANNESBURG

Fly Safair - Safair operates three flights a week from Cape Town to George Airport, specifically on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Airlink - Runs multiple flights a day, seven days a week from Cape Town & Johannesburg to George.

CemAir - Runs the only direct flight from Cape Town & Johannesburg to Plettenberg Bay.

FROM GEORGE TO PLETTENBERG BAY

We highly recommend that you rent a car for the duration of your trip to and from Plettenberg Bay. The drive from Geroge Airport to Plettenberg Bay is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. Car hire in South Africa is very affordable for those flying in from overseas.

Car Hire at George Airport

FROM CAPE TOWN

For those who want to explore a little more of South Africa, we recommend hiring a car and driving from Cape Town to Plettenberg Bay which is around a 5 hour drive along the famous Garden Route coastline. There are plenty of scenic highlights along the way. You could choose to do this in one day or split up the trip. It is a beautiful drive and well worth it.

There will be plenty of people driving so for anyone who would like to carpool get in contact and we will organise.

HOUSE KEEPING

South Africa is a beautiful country, with the most incredible people, however it is a developing country and there are some safety tips we encourage you to follow. The point of this is not to frighten anyone. Nicci and I grew up in South Africa so we’re naturally more aware than someone driving from overseas. South Africa isn’t the UK and a little extra awareness goes a long way.

That said, we truly think you’re going to love it as much as we do. The scenery is unreal, the food is incredible and the people and culture are just so special. It’s hard not to love it.

AIRPORT TRIPS:

As you leave the arrivals hall, please get a sim card (esim) from either vodacom or the MTN stall. This can only be done in the airport. Once you leave the arrivals hall politely but firmly decline any unsolicited assistance with your luggage. Don’t let anyone push your trolley or carry your bags. Only use Uber (not bolt) or a pre-booked shuttle service. Do not accept a lift or taxi service from anyone approaching you at the airport.

THE N2:

If you’re renting a car and driving into Cape Town yourself please stay on the N2 ( the main highway) all the way until you reach the city side at the base of the mountain. Please look at the screenshot

A FEW SIMPLE PRECAUTIONS FOR THIS STRETCH

  • Stay on the N2 and avoid taking unexpected turns or “shortcuts”, even if your map suggests to reroute.

  • Do not stop for anyone or anything on this stretch of road. If it’s an emergency try get into Cape Town before stopping.

  • Keep your doors locked, windows up and valuables out of sight.

The reason we are flagging this is simply that the route from the airport into the city runs alongside township areas. This is not to worry anyone, we’ve done this drive more times than we can count and so do countless locals and tourists everyday. We just want you to have the right information so you feel confident and prepared, especially on this specific stretch.

DRIVING FROM CAPE TOWN TO PLETTENBERG BAY:

There are two main routes to Plett:

Option 1: N2 (Coastal route - most common)

This is the route most people use and is a beautiful drive along the coast. You will use the same N2 section you used when coming from the airport. Once you are past the Somerset mall area (please see a screenshot), the drive is very relaxed and very scenic.

If you take this route be sure to stop off at Ou Meul Bakery for a snack.

Option 2: N1 (via Belville/Tygerberg (more inland and longer)

This route is longer and more inland. We recommend the N2 simply because it’s the most direct, it’s a beautiful drive along the coast and most people will be taking it.

We’ve created a whatsapp group for everyone driving. Before you leave, please drop a message in the group with:

  • Which route you’re taking

  • What time you’re leaving and who you’re driving with.

That way people can coordinate stops, travel in similar time windows if they want to and it helpful in case anyone breaks down etc. If you’re driving and have space in your car please put it on the whatsapp group as there are people who will need a lift.

WATER NOTE

Cape Town’s municipal tap water is treated and generally safe to drink, but some visitors find it tastes different or their stomachs take a day or two to adjust when travelling. To keep things simple, we recommend sticking to bottled or filtered water for drinking while you’re there.

In Plett, please do not drink the tap water. Some places might tell you their water is fine, but recently people have been experiencing issues and it can make you sick, so it’s best to avoid it completely and use bottled or filtered water for drinking.

PARKING TIPS

In parking areas, you’ll usually find attendants (car guards) who assist with parking and look after your car. Tipping R50-R80 ( £2.50-£5) is customary and you should always tip the guard. Don’t leave anything visible in your car once parked. Just like London people take chances.

Please do not walk around at night. Uber is very cheap and it’s very easy to get around Cape Town

If you are hiking - please do not go alone (this is a given in any country)

MONEY, JEWELLERY & BELONGINGS:

Do not bring expensive items on your trip if possible, especially jewellery.

I have no doubt you will have the most incredible experience in our beautiful country.

FAQs

  • We don’t get many chances to truly dress to the nines—so let’s go all out! Our wedding is black tie, which means tuxedos for gentlemen and formal gowns, suits, or chic two-piece ensembles for ladies (or whatever glamorous attire feels best for you).

  • The average temperature is 19 - 26 degrees with some humidity. We suggest ladies bring a shawl or something similar for the evening.

  • Please use one of the trusted taxi services listed to drop and collect you from the venue. Having cash on hand for payment is recommended.

  • There is very limited parking at the venue and must be arranged beforehand. We would prefer for all guests to use the transport/taxi services listed to be dropped off and collected from the venue.
